One of my recent slow makes was a lovely summer wearable, and I have to tell you, it was a pure joy to make.
I recently embraced slow crochet and making because I was suffering from wrist pain. The pain is on and off, sometimes really settling down, others flaring up. And I knew that unless I wanted to do myself injury, I needed to start slow downing in my making. You can read a bit more about that in my slow crochet article if you are interested.

But the projects I had on my hook during those colder months, were not ones that I wanted to make once spring rolled around. And I really did want to make a wearable and have a piece I could wear this summer.
After some hunting around, I found the perfect pattern and decided to purchase the kit from Lionbrand. This is the Chantilly Summer Tee, and making it was soooo satisfying. I actually chose to use the colour as the designer because I really liked it! So I thought, why not?
Making this Wearable
This pattern was brilliant. It was simple stitching, but included such easy to follow instructions that I wasn’t overwhelmed, which I have been with wearables before. It also included a section for your gauge swatch, which was easy and I swatched and met gauge and there was no fuss involved because the instructions were so clear. The pattern is size inclusive and requires only simple shaping. I honestly had this hooked up in no time once my wrist pain was under control.
I’m going to make a confession: I have a wearable on the hook from two years ago I’m too scared to go back to at this point. I kept making silly mistakes and having to frog and it really discouraged me. On top of that discouragement, I got really frustrated when I started another wearable and reached a point in the pattern where I just couldn’t reproduce what the instructions were making. I kept doing something wrong and for a while I was really annoyed with trying to crochet a top or sweater.
But this easy to make summer tee gave me such a high because I didn’t experience any problems and I just flew through the stitches and had a whole wearable in no time at all! I’ve been wanting more of handmade wardrobe for a while, and I officially have three pieces in that collection, which is really great.
New Wearable WIPs
In fact, I’m on such a high from this project that I started a sweater and a skirt! I’ve shared some of the sweater on Instagram, and I have to say, so far it’s been problem free. I was a little disappointed there were no swatch instructions, and while I think I’m making gauge, I’m also afraid I might not be and the gauge is hard to gauge in my opinion so I’ve just been stitching away and hoping for the best.
The skirt is a much more straight forward project, and I’m thinking of lining it once it’s made so that the movement of my legs as I walk doesn’t cause fuzzing and piling on the inside of the skirt.
I’m really excited about both these projects, and I like that they are slow makes as I’m not pressuring myself to make and that I also have other slow makes that are going to be my main and major projects for the foreseeable future.
